Teens at City Rising Farm Summer 2014

Picture
I am Michael. This is the end of my first week at City Rising Farm. It has been a good experience so far. I am learning a lot about all types of gardening. I am 15 years old and this is my first job experience. I want to keep having jobs in the future. The big challenges of this job are the heat and the dirt, but it is easy to adapt to. You get lots of vegetables from the garden that we use in our meals, so it's cool that we are learning to plant our own. I can't wait for what is in store for the rest of the summer.

My name is Kurtis, and I am 15. I garden with my mom all the time, so I joined this program for the job experience. I wanted a job that is outside. When I garden, I fee like a part of nature. This summer, I am looking forward to learning a lot about gardening and farming.

My name is Darius and I am 15 years old. My grade level is 10th grade. My favorite subjects are math, science, and social studies. What I want to do for this summer is work and have fun. I would like to learn more about gardening.

I am Brianna and I am 16 years old. I have never gardened before. At City Rising Farm, we plant all kinds of different flowers to make the garden look nice and pretty. We have also planted many types of foods such as onions, apple trees, shrubs, eggplants, and peppers. Most of all, I am looking forward to seeing all the flower beds covered in nice, strong, healthy plants. By the end of the summer I think I will have learned where to plant and what to look for in soil.

I am Brad. Before this job, I had minimal expereience in planting and agriculture. I've learned more working here for only three days than I have any time before. More about me:
1) I am 15 going on 16
2) I am not very good when it comes to common sense, yet I am knowledgeable
3) I strive to surpass the goals I am for, a process that can take time

Here is what I would like to obtain from this experience:
1) More experience gardening
2) A new perspective of nature and the world

I recall wanting to be a gardener earlier in life, but I thought it was too much work. It is, but I just keep on trying. I would like to acquire gardening skills because we, as people of the world, need to know how to grow our own food.
