THE POWER OF PEOPLE
We are at it again!

Picture

A few months ago the City Rising Farm team decided we needed to expand our programming to include some structured summer activithies for youth.  Out of several conversations among our team we decided to conduct a day camp at the Blaine Avenue Community Garden.  Josh our environemtal educator went right to work and produced an outstanding curriculum.  The team (Josh, Ms. Alisa, Mrs. McGregor,  Lara, Terah and I (Elle) worked together to get a grant proposal in to Neighborhood Connections.  We didn't know what to expect but were pleasantly surprised to be funded for a good portion of what we requested to provide this opportunity free of charge to children who wanted to participate.

It is a great way to keep children engaged and learning through fun activities over six weeks this summer.

The Home Grown Hough Environmental Day Camp is actually just one half of the day, from 8 -11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday for six weeks this summer but we are more than excited about it.

In our collaboration with the Hough library the children will be encouraged to research the subject of the day through reading assignments they can complete at the library.

So when you stop by City Rising Farm this summer please take time to check out the work of our budding enviromental stewards. These eight through fourteen year olds are making a huge difference in our neighborhood and I'm sure in the future the world!

City Rising Farm Goes Indiegogo!

Help us create more smiling faces like this!

Picture
As we move forward with continued programming in urban agriculture we look for ways to keep the education and activities we provide accessible to everyone.

The appeal on Indie GoGo helps us in raising funding to keep the mission going and the vision growing.  Please consider supporting City Rising Farm through a donation to this campaign.  The link is listed below.

Your donation keeps the smiles glowing and good fresh food growing!!

Alisa Foster:
Like what you see at the Blaine Avenue Community Garden?

Picture
A lot of that has to do with Ms. Alisa Foster!  She is the Blaine Avenue Community Garden Coordinator and works hard at making sure things are in place!  Not only does she coordinate the community garden site she is also the "garden finder" for the Hough leg of GardenWalk Cleveland 2012.  Under her leadership we have 35 gardens on the walk this year!

As if that weren't enough "Ms. Alisa" as she is affectionately called also works with the youth in our Emerging Leaders program and our newly established summer day camp program at City Rising Farm.  Whew...I get tired just thinking about all she does!

A lifelong Hough resident, Ms. Alisa is always thinking about ways to engage the community in activities that benefit not just the people in the Hough neighborhood but people where ever she finds them.  That includes the work she does with the youth in her church.

Did I say I was tired just thinking about all that Ms. Alisa does?  lol  It seems Ms. Alisa never gets tired of contributing to the local Hough community but also to our glorious world community as well!

So when you stop by City Rising Farm be sure to look for Ms. Alisa, she won't be hard to find...she's the one always working hard!

Meet Marcus

Picture
Marcus Perry is our new summer intern at City Rising Farm.  We are delighted because this is our first opportunity to have an intern and Marcus is one of our community gardeners who has just graduated from John Hay High School.   He is on his way to his freshman year at Cleveland State University in the fall!!

Marcus will be working as part of the City Rising Farm team that is facilitating the Home Grown Hough Environmental Day Camp for six weeks this summer.

Marcus has already contributed tremendously as he brings a fresh youth perspective to the curriculum and serves as a peer mentor to the youth attending the camp.
